Miller Gains Insight with Blogging Forum

According to one research company, the internet is home to more than 50 million bloggers, but ITW Miller, Appleton, Wis.,is the first to establish a corporate welding blog.

Since its January kickoff, the blog has helped Miller, the leading worldwide manufacturer of arc welding equipment and related systems for metalworking, construction, maintenance and other applications, to build stronger relationships between the company and its customers.

 

 

 

"We created the blog because we wanted to share our knowledge with our customers," said Sue Feldkamp, Manager of eMarketing for Miller. "We wanted to be able to say, Have you coonsidered this tool or this method?' We also wanted to give users a reason to come back to the site because it allows interaction we normally would not have with customers."

 

 

Located at www.MillerWelds.com/Results/blog, the new viewpoints blog is geared for individuals in the manufacturing, fabrication and construction welding industries.

Blog, short for Weblog, is an online diary where authors share their ideas, opinions and other information.

The welding blog focuses on a variety of topics important to the industry, such as learning how to earn money on scrap metal, or how to heat metals safer, faster and less expensively with induction heating. Feldkamp noted that blog reader-ship primarily comes from managers of industrial customers looking for solutions.

We've conducted off-line and online advertising targeted to our key consumers and we are seeing more and more traffic to the blog - and it's quality traffic," said Feldkamp.

"People are demonstrating an interest in the blog by looking at several pages each time they sign in."

  Bloggers range from different Miller business managers and employees to customers themselves. Weblog visitors are encourged to post comments and state their opinions on any issues regarding welding. The information is invaluable to Miller as these comments often provide key insights on what customers are seeking.

The blog really helps us demostrate our capabilities and it lets our customers interact with us, while keeping us up-to-date on trends in their businesses," said Feldkamp.
